Now that it is officially fall, every young woman should have these essential items. You can never be too prepared for unpredictable fall weather, so why not grab these pieces so you are always prepared.
1. Classic Trench Coat
A classic trench coat is great for windy/rainy fall days. A trench coat that ends just above the knee is a perfect fashionable coat that will also allow you to show off your super cute knee-high boots. Most trench coats are typically light weight compared to other coats, which I prefer. There is nothing worse than being in a place where the heater is on and you feel like you are suffocating with your coat on…or is that just me? If you don’t have a trench coat, I highly recommend you invest in one pronto!
2. Cashmere Blend Sweater
A cashmere blend sweater is a staple piece for fall. The longer and baggier the sweater, the better it is for fall. Why a cashmere blend? No one wants to wear an itchy and uncomfortable sweater. Cashmere blend sweaters tend to be softer and drape nicely against the body. Cashmere is a fabric that is typical in lounge wear, so sweaters that are cashmere are more comfortable. Not only is it soft and comfortable to wear, but cashmere is also long-lasting. If you invest in a cashmere blend sweater for this fall, it’s okay if you spend a pretty penny on it because it will last for a long time in your closet. Tip: Fold your sweater rather than hanging it, the hanger can cause the sweater to get holes, rips, tears, or make an ugly indent on the shoulder area.
3. Black Denim Skinny Jeans
Please tell me you already have a pair!? If you don’t, you NEED to get a pair or a dozen, that’s okay too. Black is my ultimate favorite color. You add skinny jeans to my favorite color and I am in heaven. Skinny jeans are by far my favorite piece of clothing to wear. Black skinny jeans will go with anything and everything. It’s also a must have if there are days where you just really don’t feel like trying to impress or it’s a lazy errands day. I would try finding a pair that is stretch-cotton. One that hugs you in all the right places. If it also has a little rip detail on it, then you are doing it right.
4. Plaid Shirt
I could live in plaid shirts. They are so easy to throw on and they are the perfect shirt to pair with a knee-high boot or a fur vest. A cotton-blend plaid shirt is more ideal because the fabric is more breathable. The color and style of plaid shirts is totally up to you because you know what types of colors you wear more often. For myself I like red and black plaid shirts and dark green and black shirts. Since I wear black a lot, I like a plaid shirt that has black within it to where I can create more outfits and styles with it. For a little tip, find a plaid shirt that is long enough to tuck into low-rise jeans. If you do that you will notice that you can create different styles and looks with the same plaid shirt.
5. Denim Jacket
A washed denim jacket that is bigger and heavier is perfect for fall. The reason why you want a bigger denim jacket is because during the fall you wear lots of layers. You don’t want to get a small denim jacket that you can’t wear a baggy sweater underneath. I don’t know about you but I like to layer under my denim jacket and still be able to move my arms and function throughout the day. Fall is unpredictable, one minute its super windy and cold and the next the sun is giving you a heat stroke. Having a denim jacket and layering underneath it is essential to keep up with the moody weather.
6. Faux Leather Skinnys
Nothing screams more sexy than a pair of leather skinnys paired with a bulky sweater. My fashion college professors always said “if you have bulky and baggy at the top, make sure the bottom is the opposite. No one wants to look like a sack of potatoes.” Faux leather skinnys add sexiness and confidence to any night out with the gals or for a date night look.
7. Sweater Kimono
Oh look, theres me. I believe all of us gals should have a sweater kimono. It’s loose, heavy but not too heavy, it’s comfortable, and it’s perfect for fall weather. I would try and get a sweater kimono that has some type of cool pattern on it. If it’s plain it just looks like a normal sweater. What I love most about sweater kimonos is the way it hangs on my body. It’s not annoying where you have to keep pulling it back on your shoulders and it’s not form fitting.
8. Quilted Puffer Vest
These are great for sporting events, traveling in colder climates, and for in the car. Again I stress about suffocating in a small, heated place, but wearing a vest in the car I can manage. Packing a quilted puffer vest in luggage is a great piece to save room in your suitcase but also have coverage in colder climates. I would try to purchase one that has deep pockets. I think the best place to wear quilted puffer vests are places where you don’t want to have to carry a purse. Whether its at a football game, a walk in the park, or at a festival it’s perfect to hold your wallet, keys, your cell phone, and your favorite lipstick. Get one with deep pockets!
9. White Converse Sneakers
Every stylish girl should have a pair of white Converse sneakers. Nothing looks more fashionably simple than a denim jacket, ripped tee, black leggings, and white Converse sneakers. These are recommended for the on-the-go gal. I also think these sneakers scream playful and athletic. If you are someone who likes wearing sweats and skinny jeans, grab a pair of Converse sneakers and you will be all set.
It does not matter what color you choose. If you have more than one style and more than one color that’s even better. I have a few booties and they range from black, brown, and taupe. Plain booties are something every woman should have in her closet but one’s with buckle details, zipper details, or gold plate details show that you are more fashion forward and open to new things. You can tell a lot about a person during your first encounter with them by their shoes. I always find myself looking at someone’s shoes first before anything else, maybe it’s just me and my love for shoes.
11. Leather Motorcycle Jacket
This is a key piece for the night out on the town in the fall. People’s first thoughts seeing a woman wearing a leather motorcycle jacket are: sexy, confident, bad-ass, and mysterious. What girl doesn’t want these things thought about her? Who knew all it took was a leather motorcycle jacket? When you are at the department store trying on the jacket, remember to get a size where you can bend down and tie your shoes without it ripping or being snug at the armpit. Careful though, don’t rip it in the department store!
12. Knee-High Boots
Knee-high boots got me feeling some type of way. I put on my knee-high boots and I feel like I can conquer anything that life decides to throw at me that day. It can literally make any outfit bad-ass or sexy. Knee-high boots tend to be more on the expensive side, so when you try them on make sure they fit well at the knee to where they don’t slide down while you walk. If you want a knee-high boot that can be an everyday kind of boot, get a pair that is flat with no heel. If you want a pair of knee-high boots to pair with your leather motorcycle jacket to go out at night with than get a pair with a heel.
